CENTRAL defender Ryan Bennett scored a crucial first goal for Norwich City when he smashed home the opening goal in the 2-1 victory over Reading in April. Having come on as substitute it was a spectacular return to action for the England Under-21 international after three months out of the first-team picture.
Bennett joined Norwich from Peterborough for an undisclosed fee on the final day of the January 2012 transfer deadline, and the 6ft 1ins defender was immediately loaned back to Posh for a month before joining his new team-mates.
Essex-born Bennett was with Ipswich as a teenager, but was released and switched to Grimsby – where he set a club record by captaining the side at 17. After playing more than 100 games he joined Peterborough on loan in October 2009 and made a permanent £500,000 move in January 2010. He helped the Posh win promotion from League One in 2011 via the play-offs.
