RYAN Bennett joined Norwich City from Peterborough for an undisclosed fee on the final day of the January 2012 transfer window.

The Essex-born defender was with Ipswich Town as a teenager, but was released and switched to Grimsby – where he set a club record by captaining the side aged 17.

After playing more than 100 games he joined Peterborough on loan in October 2009 and made a permanent £500,000 move in January 2010, going on to help Posh win promotion from League One via the play-offs the following year.

Bennett featured eight times for the Canaries in his first half-season with the Club, following that up with 20 appearances in the 2012-13 campaign, which included his maiden goal in a 2-1 win over Reading.

He battled with Michael Turner, Sebastien Bassong and Joseph Yobo for a central defensive berth in the 2013-14 season, playing 20 times again and scoring a memorable late header against Hull City at Carrow Road.

His 2014-15 campaign was interrupted by a serious ankle injury suffered in August, restricting him to eight appearances in all competitions.

Bennett had better luck in 2015-16, playing 26 times including in the famous 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
