City's Under-23s see off Reading

4 February 2018

Goals from Tristan Abrahams and Savvas Mourgos helped Norwich City’s Under-23s to an impressive 2-0 victory over Reading at Carrow Road.

Abrahams nonchalantly chipped home a penalty in the first-half before Mourgos made sure of all three points with ten minutes to play with a precise strike from the edge of the box.

City started on the front foot and were rewarded for their early endeavours on 12 minutes. After being fouled in the box by Ramarni Medford-Smith, Abrahams stepped up and effortlessly dinked in the ball down the middle past a despairing Liam Driscoll in the Reading goal.

Nine minutes later, Reading went close to levelling the scores. They had plenty of possession since going behind and managed the work the ball in Ryan East in the area, however he wasted his effort after smashing it high into the stand behind the goal.

Liam Kelly then missed the target from set-piece before Abrahams went close to add to his and City’s tally. On 32 minutes, Kamal launched a ball over the top of the Reading defence and the City striker latched onto it before drilling the ball inches over the crossbar.

City emerged from the interval looking to add to their advantage and they went close to doing so on 56 minutes. A looping ball inside the box fell kindly for Max Aarons but he could only lash hit ever only from about 12-yards.

The hosts still had to be alert at the other end and were indebted to goalkeeper Aston Oxborough on the hour mark. Medford-Smith got a clean connection on Liam Kelly’s corner but Oxborough showed superb reactions to beat the ball away from danger to preserve City’s lead.

Moments later, Reading went close again but this time, the woodwork was the saviour for City. Tyler Frost worked some room in the box before drilling a low strike against the post.

City defended brilliantly for the remainder of the game and managed to seal the victory with ten minutes to play. Mourgos bided his time on the edge of the box before drilling a low strike into the bottom corner.
