Aransibia scores in City's defeat against Boro

4 November 2018

Norwich City Under-23s lost 2-1 against Middlesbrough on Sunday afternoon, despite a much improved performance from David Wright's side.

The Canaries started well, threatening on a number of occasions in the first half. However, it was the hosts at Heritage Park who got the breakthrough. 19 minutes in, Harry Chapman’s free kick was met by the head of Nathan Wood who powered home from six-yards.

Jon McCracken was called upon for City in the latter stages of the first half, pulling off some fine saves stopping both Chapman and Sam Stubbs from finding the net.

It was still all to play for going into the second half, in a very well-contested fixture. Boro doubled their lead with 11 minutes remaining, midfielder Tyrone O’Neill saw his shot from the edge of the area find its way past McCracken and into the goal.

City responded instantly, Devonte Aransibia smashed the ball home from the D, which meant City had just under 10 minutes to find an equaliser. However, Boro saw the game out and climbed three points ahead of the Canaries in the table.

City are next in action on Thursday against Exeter City Under-23s at St James’ Park in the Premier League Cup.

City starting XI: McCracken; Kamal, Richards, Lomas, Odusina (C), Milovanovic, Aransibia, Payne, Spyrou, Thorvaldssson, Coley (Phillips 69’)
