Young Canaries lose out to late goals

TWO second half goals condemned City’s Under-18’s to a 3-2 defeat in a rain-hit match at West Ham on Saturday.

Following their 4-0 thumping of Arsenal the previous week, the young Canaries started brightly again at the Little Heath Training Ground and quickly took the lead through trialist Rod Young, who capitalised on a defensive mix up.

The home side then levelled, before Young grabbed his and City’s second goal to send the Canaries in with a deserved a half-time lead.

City defended well against a West Ham onslaught in the second half, but eventfully succumbed with the Hammers securing the points with two late goals.

Coach Neil Adams said afterwards: “We played well in parts today and, despite having to defend for long spells in the second half were still looking good value for a victory.

“The two goals that West Ham scored though were preventable and mainly down to individual errors, which was obviously disappointing from our point of view.”
