Jacob and Josh Murphy sign first professional deals with City

NORWICH City Football Club is pleased to announce that 17-year-old scholars Jacob (pictured left) and Josh Murphy (right) have signed professional contracts at Carrow Road.

The two-and-a-half year deals will keep the promising young wingers at the Club until the end of the 2014-15 season, with Norwich having the option of a further year.

The current campaign has seen the twin brothers progress from Neil Adams’ under-18s to Scott Marshall’s under-21s squad, where their eye-catching performances earned them call-ups for England’s U-18 and U-19 squads.

Norwich City Manager Chris Hughton told “I’m absolutely delighted to have secured the futures of Jacob and Josh at Norwich City Football Club.

“They’ve shown that they have great potential and have certainly earned these contracts with their hard work.

“We only give out contracts when we feel that they have been earned, and this is certainly the case with Jacob and Josh.

“They’re both exciting players and more importantly they are good lads who we’re pleased to have at this Football Club.”

Shortly after putting pen-to-paper at Carrow Road on Friday, Josh told Canaries Player: “It’s amazing. It’s the best feeling.

“Jacob and I have worked so hard for this and we’ve been rewarded with these contracts. Now we just want to kick on towards the first team.

“So much work has gone into getting us here you wouldn’t believe – loads of extra training after our normal training sessions, and whenever we get time off we just practice, practice, and practice.”

Jacob added: “It’s the biggest day of my life. It’s a really good achievement for me and Josh both, so I’m delighted.

“For Josh last year it was great to get on the bench for the Doncaster game in the Capital One Cup, and then for us both playing for England was really good, and this is a great way to start 2013 by signing professional deals.”

On the Manager a grateful Josh said: “Chris Hughton has helped us a lot. He really likes young players and he has given us the opportunity to be in and around his team so we’re just thankful for everything.”
