Hat-trick for Loza as young Canaries thrash Blackburn

JAMAR Loza netted a superb hat-trick as Norwich City's Under-21s cruised to a 5-0 win over Blackburn Rovers on Monday night.

The forward - on loan at Leyton Orient but eligible after not featuring for the League One side at the weekend - was in clinical form, scoring in either half.

Josh Murphy notched City's other two goals as they romped to their most emphatic win of the season.

Coach Mark Robson said afterwards: "We were 1-0 up at half-time but there was a big improvement in the second half.

"We've got a lot of pace in our side and we used it well to open Blackburn up. It's a great win for us."

Both Josh and Jacob Murphy started for Mark Robson's side, while veteran goalkeeper Carlo Nash was named between the sticks.

City had Nash to thank twice in the first as he produced a stunning fingertip save to deny Connor Mahoney before keeping out a David Goodwillie shot at his near post.

Jacob Murphy had the Canaries' best initial two chances of the first half, but it was his borther Josh who set up Loza for the opening goal.

His corner found the unmarked striker, who nodded home to edge City in front with ten minutes left of the opening period.

Jake Kean then had to be at his best to deny Jacob Murphy from close range as Rovers kept the deficit at one goal as half-time came.

HALF-TIME: Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Norwich City

Loza and Josh Murphy had half chances as City started the second half brightly, before Jacob Murphy was once again thwarted by Kean.

Nash needed two attempts to keep out Josh Morris' shot with 25 minutes left on the clock, but Norwich got their second moments later.

Loza latched onto Jacob Murphy's pass, switched the ball onto his left foot and finished with aplomb to double his own and his team's tally.

He then completed his treble ten minutes later, playing a one-two with Carlton Morris before poking the ball into the net.

City were running riot and notched their fourth with eight minutes left on the clock - Josh Murphy finishing well from outside the box

He then capped things off for the Canaries in stoppage time, scoring his second and their fifth to wrap up a thoroughly convincing victory.

On Loza's hat-trick, Robson added: "His first was from a set-piece and that was nice for us because we've been practising them.

"His second was a fantastic goal, a proper goal, and Carlton did well to set up his third.

"We'll dust the lads off now ready for our Norfolk Senior Cup game on Thursday where hopefully we can take plenty from tonight's game."
