COMMUNITY HERO: DUNCAN MACINNES

4 March 2015

Duncan MacInnes to present Wigan matchball

City’s Community Hero for the fixture against Wigan Athletic on Wednesday (7.45pm) is passionate Norwich City season-ticket holder and Community Sports Foundation volunteer Duncan MacInnes.

Duncan, 61, heads up CSF’s Caring in the Community programme, a free service for patients at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital.

He makes regular visits throughout the season to the hospital to meet poorly patients and in June 2013, he reached an impressive milestone when he visited fifteen-year old Ellie Loades – his 3,000th patient.

Duncan shows short highlights of recent Norwich City matches and provides fascinating anecdotes and stories from the club to patients and their relatives in wards and clinics.

He comes equipped with match day programmes, posters and Caring in the Community stickers – plus, from time to time, signed City goodies.

Duncan has also led and organised fourteen community projects with volunteer fans – once even helping to paint Carrow Road!

Caring in the Community was founded in 2003 as Canaries for the Community but was relaunched under its new name this year, thanks to funding from CSF’s Sporting Light Appeal.

Duncan has made regular visits to the NNUH this season, including joining City players Bradley Johnson, Jonny Howson, Nathan Redmond, John Ruddy and Jamar Loza on their Christmas visit to the hospital’s children’s ward.

He will be honoured for his years of tireless volunteer work when he brings out the matchball ahead of kick-off on Wednesday.
