Accies hold Rangers to a 1-1 draw

REMI Matthews said he relished the experience after making his Scottish Premiership debut for Hamilton Academical against Rangers at a packed Ibrox on Saturday.

In the televised early kick-off, Matthews pulled off a number of saves to keep the hosts at bay, with the game eventually finishing 1-1 - Martyn Waghorn found a way past the young City goalkeeper after Ali Crawford had put the Accies in front.

"I loved it, it was a massive experience for me, playing in front of 50-55,000 people," Matthews said. "But it’s one of those ones that you have to embrace and enjoy. I thought we were excellent, and we got what we wanted.

"We’d have loved to have taken the three points, but we’re buzzing with a point, especially away from home and in the opening game – I’m absolutely delighted."

South of the border, Declan Rudd started in Charlton Athletic's season curtain-raiser away to Bury after completing a loan move to the Addicks at the start of the month.

Russell Slade's team suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Gigg Lane after Bury goals from Neil Danns and Kelvin Etuhu.
