Canaries go down to defeat at The Pirelli Stadium

NORWICH City defender Steven Whittaker spoke of 'bitter disappointment' after his side fell to a damaging 2-1 Sky Bet Championship defeat at Burton Albion on Saturday.

Losing at The Pirelli Stadium saw the Canaries fall further off the play-off pace following results elsewhere, with one game fewer left to play as the campaign moves towards its latter stages.

"We're very disappointed because we came here on a good run," Whittaker told Norwich City TV.

"We wanted to continue that today but things just never worked out for us. We're bitterly disappointed.

"Some games are small margins, we've made a couple of misjudgments which cost us two goals. We've shot ourselves in the foot.

"We all make mistakes, sometimes they're punished and sometimes they aren't. Today, they were punished."

Explaining where he felt it had gone wrong for his side, the 32-year-old added: "We've not been consistent enough in these types of games.

"It's going to be scrappy at times in the Championship. We need to dig in and stick together.

"We tried to do that today but it wasn't meant to be. We still believe we've got the squad to go on a good run.

"We'll look forward to the game next Sunday now but we know we need to pick up points and pick them up quickly. We need to start another run."
