Yanic Wildschut hopes his goal and performance against Sheffield United will lead to an increased involvement in Daniel Farke’s matchday starting eleven in the coming weeks.
Wildschut has been in and out of the team in the opening part of the season but he was giving a starting berth at Bramall Lane and grasped his opportunity with both hands.
Speaking to the media post-match, Wildschut said: “I was happy to play again. I’ve been in and out of the team but when you get the opportunity to play you have to prove yourself.
“I have to say it was a bit hard at the beginning because the speed of the game was so quick. But I got the goal and hopefully it’s enough to be involved more in the coming weeks.
“We said at half-time: we knew the feeling we would get if we won, especially after four hours on the coach. But everyone is really happy, we all worked really hard and we got the three points which was the most important thing.”
Wildschut also praised the atmosphere within the City dressing room and said the new players have embedded into the squad with ease.
“From the first week, there has been a great atmosphere in the group,” he continued. “The manager and the new players have all said this.
“We’ve all clicked and connected and I think we now have the winning feeling and everyone is working for each other. We’ve been saying to each other: ‘If someone makes a mistake, help your teammate out’.
“After conceding so many goals [recently], you have to do something. It’s worked though because we’ve all stuck together and worked hard on the training ground. We’ve got three clean sheets in a row now and hopefully we can build on this.”
