Mario Vrancic: We can take positives from Cup exit at Bournemouth

30 October 2018

Mario Vrancic says he and his Norwich City teammates can take plenty of positives from their 2-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth in Carabao Cup Round Four.

City’s run in the competition was ended on Tuesday night with Junior Stanislas and Steve Cook strikes cancelling out an equaliser from Onel Hernandez.

However, the Canaries created lots of chances on the night and could have easily made it through to the quarter-finals.

And midfielder Vrancic said the team can take positives from their display.

“Definitely [the better team lost]. Everyone who was in the stadium could see there was only one team who deserved to win,” he said, speaking to canaries.co.uk post-match.

“We are gutted that we lost the game although I think we can be very proud. We can take a lot of positive things out of the game.

“We created many, many chances and defended very well against a Premier League side.

“So we can take a lot of positives out of the game, definitely. It was the first time we’d played with this line-up and I think we did well.

It was a rare start for Vrancic who has had to settle for cameo appearances from the bench over recent weeks.

He said he enjoyed the battle against the Premier League outfit and added that he will take lots of confidence from his impressive, personal performance.

“I enjoyed it very much and we played really well together. As I said, we are very disappointed. It’s nice to enjoy it [the game] but the was only one goal in the game and we are very disappointed about that.

“To be in the best eight of the Carabao Cup would be a big thing for us. But we can focus on the league now for the next two months.

“I created many chances and could have scored some goals as well but I’m still disappointed that I couldn’t score or assist. But I take a lot of positives from my display.”
