Norwich City is delighted to highlight our tenth weekly Community Hero, showcasing the story of those special individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Jessica Bingham, 7, has been nominated for completing her incredible fundraising challenge of running a 26-mile staggered marathon, helping to raise £1,780 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, EACH.
Jessica has completed her challenge of running a mile every day for 26 days during May to support the Norfolk children’s hospice. EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex but since the lockdown, they have experienced a devastating drop in income after closing all their shops across Norfolk.
“I decided to run a marathon to help raise money for EACH as the Nook Children’s Hospice is a wonderful part of our local community which has been affected, alongside many other amazing charities by COVID 19.
“All my friends supported me and sent photos of them running to my Just Giving page. I got tired sometimes, but I really enjoyed the challenge and also raising money,” said Jess.
Jessica’s family also took part in the challenge with her mum, Rebecca Bingham running alongside Jess, and her dad, Robert Bingham and younger sister Sophie joined by bikes.
“We are so proud of Jess and the determination she has shown for the challenge. She accepted the challenge since the start and it has been great to watch. I don’t think she can quite comprehend how much money she has raised but she has been so excited watching the money tallying up over the past few weeks.
“The support for Jessica has been amazing, our family and friends kept her motivated daily and we just want to say a massive thank you to all those wonderful people who have supported and donated,” said Rebecca.
