Teemu Pukki praised Norwich City’s creative spark as the Canaries recorded a 3-1 win over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Pukki got two of the goals following outstanding passes from Marco Stiepermann and Jacob Sorensen. And, while he still needed to provide the finishing touch, he was quick to praise the players who created the chances.
“Yes, it was old Stiepy (Marco Stiepermann). He is back,” smiled Teemu. “I enjoy playing with him, because he knows my runs and he is always trying to find me. It was a great pass and a good goal. It was also the same from Jacob (Sorensen). It was a good pass and he is a really good player. He has what it takes to play at left-back. Obviously, that is not his normal position, but he has been doing a great job and he will be an important player for us this season.”
Having raced into a two-goal lead, thanks to Pukki’s efforts, Norwich conceded a goal when Jack Hunt volleyed home after 15 minutes. However, the Canaries kept creating chances and Emi Buendia restored the two-goal lead in first-half stoppage time by getting on the end of a long ball from Ben Gibson and finding the bottom corner.
“It was an unbelievable goal, what a touch and what a finish,” said Teemu. “He (Emi Buendia) is a player we need, and I specifically need him to create me these chances and I am happy he got the confidence from that goal.”
It was also a good confidence boost for Pukki, who is now on four goals for the campaign. However, he says the important thing for him and the team is that the amount of chances Norwich are creating remains high.
“We kept creating chances and that is the important thing,” he said. “We didn’t score as many as we could have done, but we keep creating those chances and that will give us a lot of points this season for sure.
“There were lot of things with the last pass or the last shot missing in the end, but it is good to score for me.
“It hasn’t been the start (to the season) that I was wishing for but to get these goals keeps the confidence for the rest of the games.”
