Looking back at a busy February half-term for the RDP

27 February 2020

Fixtures, Trials, Colney visits, and of course some Holiday Courses – it’s been an action-packed February half-term for the Regional Development Programme and our participants.

Here’s our in-brief round-up of just some of the activities that took place:

Boys’ Football

Half-term is always a busy time for our Football Development Programmes, and this one was no exception.

It was an action-packed week for fixtures across our three regions Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Suffolk.

Our Peterborough Boys PDC Programme enjoyed fixtures throughout the week coming up against Over & In, Lincoln, Peterborough Sports Academy and also Feeder FC. A competitive week of fixtures which provided great opportunities involved.

It was also non-stop in Suffolk! Across Monday and Tuesday both our PDC and EPDC Programmes visited West Ham for fixtures against West Ham Foundation Teams. A fantastic two days of fixtures which created memorable experiences for the boys!

Lastly in Cambridgeshire for our boy’s development programmes, The PDC Programme travelled to London for fixtures against Bow’s Soccer Academy in what we’re challenging fixtures for us; with the U10’s & U11’s involved in thrilling contests in particular.

On the final day of a busy half term, the fun continued for the boys! We played host to the Chelsea Foundation in fixtures between the U9, U10, U11, U12 and Under 13 Elite PDC age groups. All the games right through the age groups were extremely competitive with a high standard of football on show, providing the watching parent with a great day’s entertainment!

Our boys PDC Programmes across our three regions also competed in an Internal fixtures day which as always was a great success and a great day for all involved.

Girls’ Football

The girls kicked off the week in Cambridgeshire with the Girls EDP Fixtures at Hinchinbrook. We welcomed West Brom, Ipswich and Plymouth for what was a great day of girl’s football which saw competitive games with plenty of goals on show!

The fun didn’t stop there for our girls as on Wednesday the PDC travelled to Stevenage for fixtures against Watford and of course Stevenage. The day saw the girls play a number of games whilst producing some great team goals and playing some fantastic football!

To finish the week our girls heading to the fantastic facility which is the Nest in Norwich. The day saw the U10’s take part in fixtures against CSF, Cambridge United and Suffolk FA Teams which were all very well contested games providing some exciting games for the spectators watching on. The day also saw the Under 16 Squad take on CSF.

Holiday Courses

As always, our holiday courses were a massive success with the majority selling out! Across the five day’s we held our courses at 8 different venues across our three regions! We welcomed over 200 young canaries to our courses who all enjoyed a variety of challenges, fun games and different sports across the week! It wasn’t just soccer schools on offer this February, we had lots of participants join us for our Multi-Sports which saw the debut of Archery! Our Multi-Sports camp provide a variety of sporting and activities for children ranging from 4-12 Years old! Keep your eyes peeled for the exciting news of our April Holiday Courses.

…and elsewhere

Through the week we had several football and education students from both our Thomas Deacon Academy and Bishop Laney programmes assist on our community and football development programmes providing them with great opportunities for them to learn and a potential pathway for the future.

It was a busy week of trials with Suffolk and Peterborough holding open development trials for both boys and girls programmes, the trials proved a great success with a large amount of partcipants and a high standard on show!

Thomas Deacon Academy, Bishop Laney and our new Impington Village College Football and Education Programmes also held Open trial events which welcomed both boys and girls to showcase the programme.

An U10 Representative side from each of our three regions also made the visit to Colney on the Friday evening for a festival which included Norfolk and a City Select side.

The Regional Development Programme would like to a extend a massive thank you to all the teams who welcomed us for fixtures and to all that took part in our fixture days, also to all the coaches, young referees and a special thank you to all the parents!

We look forward to continuing our weekly sessions with the excitement already building for April half term.
