Throughout the current season our girl’s development pathway has shown continued growth in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
Moving into the 2020-2021 season, we will look to build on these successes and continue to grow and enrich the girl’s pathway, as well as open brand new centres in Peterborough, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
Our aim across all of the RDP is to provide professional, positive and meaningful experiences through football and sport and at the heart of that is engaging with more girl’s throughout East Anglia. During the 20/21 season we will be providing more girl’s specific opportunities within our communities, running girl’s only development camps and open training sessions available to girl’s of all ages and ability levels to have fun and be active. Our open training sessions will provide an opportunity once a term to get a taster of what our programmes have to offer, with access to professional and engaging coaching.
Our Player Development Centres offer the opportunity to be a part of a welcoming and friendly environment with exceptional weekly coaching for girl’s who are just beginning on their footballing journey, as well as those looking to progress and take their game to the next level. All of our centre’s compliment local football and do not prevent players from playing other sports, or for their local team.
Those who are further along in their journey and excelling within their age group will have progression opportunities into our Elite Player Development Centres. Our Elite centre’s encourage fun and development throughout, but will provide a challenging and progressive learning environment with likeminded and talented girls. Our Elite centre supports progression into academy programmes and ACC’s. In recent years, Uma Chetcuti provides an example of the opportunities available from our elite programme as she signed for Spurs WSL academy from our pathway.
Both our PDC’s and Elite PDC’s will have an exciting annual tour opportunity. Previously we have visited destinations such as Manchester and Newcastle, participating in stadium tours, team building activities and fixtures against local clubs in an action packed week away.
In order to reward ability and effort within our pathway and give the best opportunities we can for learning and progression, in the 20/21 season we will be implementing the brand new Elite PLUS programme. This will provide girl’s who are excelling within our elite centres the opportunity to represent Norwich City RDP in higher level fixtures during the season. Girl’s from Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Peterborough who show an outstanding attitude and are excelling within their groups will be selected to form the Elite PLUS squad.
As well as learning and development on the pitch, enrichment is an important part of our pathway. Our goal is that every young person we engage with, at any capacity, has a positive experience and feels empowered. During the lockdown period we have provided girls access to Tottenham Hotspurs Women’s Super League Assistant Coach Laura Kaminski, local Senior Footballers and successful female role models such as Jordan Guard. Throughout the season we will provide further opportunities to meet and engage in Q&A’s with successful women in sport and other industries, aiming to provide memorable experiences and insights into career prospects. Furthermore, as a part of our new syllabus we will include workshops and seminars on topics such as health, wellbeing, nutrition and so on.
We always welcome expressions of interest from girl’s looking to take the next step in their football journey, if you are interested in any of what this article has discussed please register your interest HERE and we will contact you in due course.
I hope to see you all back out on the pitch soon!
