Football & Education League Placings 2020-2021

30 June 2020

This coming academic year we welcome the very talented scholars from Impington Village College to the RDP family, this is a partnership that will, without doubt, add an extra dimension to our existing Football and Education Programmes at Bishop Laney Sixth Form College in Ely, and Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough.

As we get closer to a return to competitive action, we are delighted to announce the new competitions our players will be participating in this season. Each league is designed to test our players in many different ways, with the schemes playing teams from all over the East Anglia area and parts of London. We are also delighted to have entered a number of Futsal tournaments over the year and with the introduction of our female programme at Bishop Laney, Wednesday afternoons look set to be a very busy time with potentially 7 different teams in action across our 3 programmes.

Bishop Laney – Again our Bishop Laney first team will be competing in the highly prestigious National Alliance Under 19 Division. Thought to be the best standard under 19 league outside of Academy football we will face several National League Academy sides as we have been paired with Bedfont Sports, Enfield Town, Hitchin Town, Kings Langley, London Tigers, our friends from Luton Town, Met Police, Newport Pagnell, Walton and Hersham, Walton Casuals and Windsor.

Meanwhile, our second XI will again compete in the English Colleges Cat 3 division These leagues are based upon the region each team come from, with our Impington Village College and Thomas Deacon Academy schemes having sides in equivalent leagues. The Bishop Laney scheme will line up against Lowestoft Town Academy, Bungay Sixth Form College, The F2 Free Stylers Academy, AFC Sudbury and St Joseph's College Ipswich.

New to this year, our Men's team will also take part in the AOC futsal festival, here they will travel to face each team in their group on a regular basis with the winners of the group progressing to the next stage. Futsal is a high paced smaller version of football, with a high emphasis on skill and technique, so a great learning experience for our players. We will compete against Suffolk New College, Easton College, Lowestoft Town Academy and USP college based in Grays.

Finally, the  newest team at Bishop Laney will see the introduction of our female programme who will also compete in the AOC futsal festival against Long Road Sixth Form, an RDP derby with our Impington programme and Easton College. Alongside this, the girls will participate in regular friendly fixtures with a variety of other college Football and Education schemes.

Both of our Bishop Laney Schemes performed strongly last season with a top 3 finish a possibility for both teams. We are so excited by the introduction of our female programme and wish them all the very best for the season ahead.

Impington Village College – Next up we look at the league for our male and female players at Impington Village College. First, up our men's first team will compete in the English Colleges Men's Championship, where they will face Oaklands Wolves Football Academy, 4V-Academy, Samuel Whitbread Academy, Dereham Education & Soccer Academy Football, Central Bedfordshire College, The EDSV Academy and The Simon Balle Football Academy.

Meanwhile also in the AOC Cat 3 league, our IVC second team boys will line up against Another F 2 academy Free Stylers team, The Samuel Whitbread Academy Development side, St Ives Town Scholars, One Touch Football Academy, The Football Education Academy and V – Football Academy.

Alongside this, our female players from Impington Village College will line up in the AOC league with the fixtures yet to be confirmed we are excited to find out who we will face. They will also take part in the same futsal tournament as our Bishop Laney female team.

Thomas Deacon Academy – Finally our scheme at Thomas Deacon Academy complete our teams. Again, the boys will take part in the English Colleges Cat 3 division, facing the Football and Education Academy 1st team, again with two the F2 Free Stylers teams, One Touch Academy 1st Team and the YDP All-Stars in Peterborough.

All three schemes will face a wide variety of teams, and styles of play, ensuring our players will enjot a wide range of experiences over the coming season, whether it be on the grass or on the futsal court.
