We are delighted to announce the launch of our fourth football and education programme which will be delivered in partnership with Stratton Upper School in Biggleswade.
Launching in September 2021, the scheme will provide students with the opportunity to study, train and play as part of an exciting new pathway for the sixteen to nineteen age groups giving further opportunities in the way of academic learning and football delivery.
The programme will be open for male and female students who have a passion for sport to continue their education at Stratton Upper School. On the pitch, students will take part in daily training sessions delivered by our highly qualified staff and represent Norwich City FC in a competitive fixture programme against other professional clubs, semi-professional sides and college programmes. As well as this, students will be able to study and have the option to choose between two education pathways.
Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Sport (Equivalent to 1 A Level)
+2 other Level 3 options offered at the school.
Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport. (Equivalent to 2 A Levels)
+1 other Level 3 option at the school.
Students will study a variety of units which include, body systems, sports coaching, sports organisation, sports injuries and sport psychology.
These options have been carefully designed to offer students the flexibility to continue their academic journey and create opportunities for their future pathway. There are also opportunities for students to participate in the football programme whether or not they are studying for a qualification in sport.
Our key aim is to help students develop their aspirations within a number of football environments as footballers by potentially progressing into professional and semi-professional teams, scholarships abroad and coaching opportunities, whilst achieving the highest possible education grades to gain access to university or employment off the pitch. Students will have access to a dedicated support team from coaches and teachers, to ensure the individual needs of students are met.
Football and Education Manager Pip Davis commented: “The new partnership is a really exciting step for our Football and Education Programmes. Our schemes at Bishop Laney, Impington and Thomas Deacon Academy have seen our players progress to higher levels of the game as players, into coaching and also achieve some fantastic results in the classroom.
"We are really excited to work with Stratton Upper School to provide exciting experiences for the students of the local area and beyond”.
Operations Manager, Matt Clements, also commented: “We are very excited to announce our partnership with Stratton Upper School, and looking forward to working with both the provider and its students.
The ability to offer post sixteen students within the area positive educational and football opportunities is key. Alongside developing a strong relationship with the school to help enhance the great work that has already been done there”.
On the exciting new partnership Stratton Upper School Principal, Ms Rosalind Hodges has this to say: “We are absolutely delighted to have teamed up with Norwich City FC Regional Development Programme’s Football and Education programme to offer some new and exciting opportunities for our post-16 students.
Our very successful Sixth Form is the second highest performing in Central Bedfordshire so we know it’s a great place for our students to continue to learn and progress.
So many of our young people have a passion for sport, and football in particular, so this alliance with Norwich City FC RDP will provide a unique opportunity for our students to develop their passions further while providing some amazing pathways to future careers”.
A virtual presentation, providing full information on the partnership, will be taking place on Monday 22nd February from 7pm – 8 pm.
