On Friday 16th July our Football and Education players welcomed former Norwich City FC Academy and Peterborough United first-team player Bobby Copping for a presentation on the highs and lows of life in professional football.
Bobby shared his inspirational story from being an academy player at Norwich City Academy, to signing a professional contract with Peterborough United, through to retirement from the game at the age of 19 following a serious head injury.
The talk was largely focused around dealing with setbacks, and Bobby provided the perfect example to our young players of never giving up on your dreams and working every day to overcome setbacks.
Following his devastating news Bobby has been an example to all, working numerous roles at Peterborough United including becoming the Assistant Coach of their under-14 academy team amongst others. He has also set-up the Bobby Copping Foundation, which aims to help young sports people who have been dealt with adverse challenges within sport resulting in mental health issues.
We hope that Bobby’s story will inspire our students to work hard towards their dreams on and off the pitch.
