On Thursday the 10th of June a selection of players across our Bishop Laney Sixth Form, Impington International College, Stratton Upper School and Thomas Deacon Academy schemes made the trip to the club's Lotus Training Ground.
With selection based on the boys individual performances over the year we took part in an under 17 festival in front of the watchful eyes of the club's academy staff in what was a fantastic opportunity for our players to demonstrate their ability on the pitch.
Playing against Shenfield Academy and Kinetic Academy (who played a part in Jadon Sancho’s development) the three-team round-robin tournament was full of quality with our players more than playing their part. Across the tournament, we suffered defeat against a well organized Shenfield side however a Charlie Barham goal earned us a hard-fought win against kinetic.
The players acquitted themselves superbly on and off the field throughout the afternoon and were excellent representatives of our four education providers and the RDP.
Football and Education Manager Pip Davis had this to say on the day ‘The football and education programme is all about providing students with opportunities they may not normally get to experience. Today was one of those days where our players got to experience the club's outstanding facilities and test themselves against some of the best college players in London and Essex. By providing our players with these sorts of opportunities we hope this will serve as added motivation for our current and future players to strive to be the very best they can be’.
All four of our colleges and schools are still recruiting ahead of September 2021, If you would be interested to hear more about the exciting opportunities available to students on our schemes please contact Pip.Davis@canaries.co.uk to arrange your trial
