Girls football at the RDP

24 March 2021

Over the lockdown period, we have provided a range of opportunities for our Canary kickers, Girls PDC & Elite players.

We have hosted several virtual training sessions, focusing on ball mastery, football-related fitness, reactions and most importantly getting all of the girls together and active. In addition to these, we have welcomed guest HIIT & Mobility sessions from a qualified personal trainer, as well as speakers on topics such as mental health and physiotherapy.

It has been an important focus of ours to give the girls access to female role models in football and sport, to show all of our players what they can aspire to achieve. We have been lucky enough to host webinars with Merrick Will London Bees footballer, Shaun Howes Norwich City WFC manager, as well as ex-RDP players who are now playing in the Women’s National League.

Over the previous week, we have hosted a workshop event for coaches, parents and players focusing on supporting the female footballer. Within the workshop, we highlighted the effects of the menstrual cycle on performance, as well as giving guidance on nutrition, strength & conditioning, rest and recovery to help our players maximise their health and performance capacity. It is a key aim of our girls' football programmes to make the environment specialized to support female players, ensuring all of our players are learning both on and off the pitch.

Whilst we have had some fantastic events throughout the lockdown period, we now have our restart date in sight. We are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity for girls aged 4-16 who are interested in starting their football journey with us to attend a free taster session at either our Canary Kickers centres (4-8) or Development Centres (8-16). You can find more information on our programmes and how you can get involved below.
