Defender hails Hughton influence on bringing him to Norwich
The 26-year-old is now available for selection when Barclays Premier League football returns to Carrow Road on Saturday with the visit of Queens Park Rangers, should Manager Chris Hughton call upon the defender he worked with at Newcastle.
“Playing in the Premier League has been a dream for me,” Bassong told Canaries Player.
“When I joined Newcastle I was delighted to be able to show what I can do in the Premier League. It was a big step in my career.”
The Cameroonian international joins the Canaries on a three-year-deal from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.
During his last two years at Spurs, he made a total of 44 appearances, including in the UEFA Champions League, but found his first team opportunities limited last season. He also spent part of the 2011-2012 campaign on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The defender was thrilled to join Norwich City, and the appointment of Hughton as Manager, alongside the success of the Club in recent years was a major factor in his decision to make the move.
He added: “I’m looking forward to the challenge.
“I think Norwich City had a great season last year, having come from the Championship and doing really well in the Premier League.
“Obviously Chris Hughton I know from my time at Newcastle, and that made a big difference for me.
“I’ll now have more time to look around and appreciate the city.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s game at home to Queens Park Rangers, he said: “It’s going to be an important day for us, and after the bad start we had last week, it will be a great game to try and bounce back.”
