CITY'S LADIES CLAIM CONVINCING WIN

26 August 2012

Basson hat-trick makes it two out of two in 4-1 win over Chichester

CITY made it two out of two for the season as they claimed a convincing 4-1 win over Chichester Ladies to maintain their 100% record for the season.

In what was their longest away trip of the season City took an early lead against newly promoted Chichester as Nadine Basson headed home a perfect cross from Anna Larkins to give City the lead.

Chichester looked to respond and threatened on the break, but with just the one loan striker to aim for the City defence were dealing with them well.

And City doubled their lead through Basson once again. This time her strike partner Vicki Stephens played an exquisite ball through for her to calmly finish past the advancing keeper and double her tally.

City were soon grateful to keeper Fiona Coombes however as she pulled off two incredible saves to allow City to maintain a 2-0 lead going in at half time.

Chichester changed their game plan and introduced a second striker following the half time interval, giving them a greater impetus. The change lead to a Chichester goal and although Coombes pulled another top save she could only parry in to the path of an on coming Chichester player who reduced the home sides deficti to one

With their lead now cut in half, City pushed on and they soon regained their two goal lead when Basson was handed an opportunity on the edge of the area for her hat-trick. Calm and collected she cooly lifted the ball up and over the keeper to put City 3-1 up and completing her first senior hat trick.

City introduced Hayley Collison and Natalie Clark to the game and as Chichester pushed forward further opportunities opened with Larkins and Kate Parsons coming close.

But City rounded off a good away day for the Club when Kyla Love completed the scoring as she turned home a through ball from Naomi Cooper.

On the result team Manager Fletcher said: "It's been a great start to the season and it was pleasing to see Basson score her first senior hat trick for the Club. We do not underestimate there are some big battles to come in this league but the girls have shown signs all over the park that they can compete at this level."
