City defender lends support to Show Racism the Red Card

NORWICH City star Russell Martin was on hand to lend his support to an anti-racism event held at Morrisons in Riverside on Saturday.

Norwich Mayor Ralph Gayton also attended the Show Racism the Red Card event, which was organised by Morrisons worker Brian Lewis.

Lewis was inspired to take action against discrimination after a meeting with ex-footballer Luther Blissett.

Russ Martin added: “The issue of racism in football has been highlighted with some recent events which should not have happened. It’s important to get it stamped out of football.”

Norwich City’s Safeguarding Officer Tony Hedges was also at the event, which was attended by a number of organisations and was a huge success.

He said: “In keeping with football’s pledge, Norwich City Football Club is committed to tackling discrimination in all its forms to make the Club a welcoming place for all fans.

“To this end the Club is actively working towards the Equality Standard for Professional Clubs awarded by Kick It Out."
