Wes Hoolahan gets second senior international cap for Ireland

Three City stars were in International this midweek including a first senior international cap in four years for playmaker Wes Hoolahan.

Picking up his first cap since coming on as a second-half substitute in Ireland’s 1-0 win over Columbia at Craven Cottage, Hoolahan played 45 minutes of Ireland’s 1-0 defeat to Greece at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Wednesday evening. A Jose Holebas strike on 29 minutes sealed the win for the Greeks.

Giovanni Trappotoni’s International call for the City star caps off an excellent start of the season for Hoolahan. Having made ten appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal for the Canaries so far this season, the tricky midfielder has impressed with his latest run of form.

City full-back Steven Whittaker was also in action for Scotland as they ran out 2-1 winners over Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel stadium.

The City full-back played the full 90 minutes of the friendly victory, with a double from Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes sealing the victory for the Scots.
Also involved in international action was City ‘keeper John Ruddy as he took his place on the bench for the Three Lions 4-2 defeat to Sweden at the Friends Stadium in Stockholm.

Paris Saint Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored all for goals for the Swedes with Danny Welbeck and Steven Caulker getting the goals for England.

City midfielder Alexander Tettey was not involved for his country Norway, having withdrawn from the squad through injury.
