Defender looks ahead to Saturday's Villa clash

SUMMER signing Michael Turner has spoken of his delight at securing a first Barclays Premier League win against Arsenal last week.

Turner played a key role in defence alongside Sebastien Bassong as the Canaries beat Arsenal 1-0 at Carrow Road and hopes that confidence can carry through to Saturday’s clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Turner told Canaries Player: “The lads are delighted with the win. We’ve all taken confidence from it and in training everyone has been flying around. We’re looking forward to the Villa game coming up.

“It was a huge effort by everyone against Arsenal – it was a great performance, a great win, and to get the clean sheet was a nice bonus.

“We can’t rest on our laurels; we’ve got another tough game on Saturday. We’ve been working really hard in training this week to back up the win from last week and hopefully put in another performance.

“I was delighted to get back in the team and win. It has been a tricky start as I’ve been in and out of the team, and we’ve had some bad results.

“It does knock your confidence but you’ve got to keep going. Hopefully I can stay in the team and more importantly put in some more consistent performances.

“Any win will lift morale around the place. After the start we had, it was disappointing so to get that win, which is what we needed, means it is vitally important that we back up that performance.”

One man Turner will know well in the Villa squad on Saturday is £24M striker Darren Bent, who was a team-mate of his at Sunderland before making the move to Villa Park in January 2011.

“I know Darren, he is a top player and a goal scorer,” said Turner. “He hasn’t scored so many this season, but he’s always there or there abouts in the box.

“They’ve got a good squad of players and it’ll be tough, but we can perform.

“The fact that Paul Lambert is their manager will mean that our boys will know how he wants to play, but we’re solely focused on the match and getting some points on the board.

“They’ve had one win this season so they’ll be wanting another, and they will be under a little bit of pressure from their fans. If we can start the game well then I’m sure we can get some success.”
