Kei Kamara is the subject of this weekendâs âBig Interviewâ and the popular City striker provides readers with his uplifting story from growing up during the civil war in Sierra Leone to fulfilling his Premier League dream.
Kei recalls: âFootball was the saviour for the kids â growing up in Africa thatâs what we all did. We just played, even with the gunshots.
âWhen the gunshots stopped, if it stopped for 30 minutes or an hour, and we heard people outside weâd come outside and weâd start playing. And then weâd be playing in the streetsâŚand then youâd hear people running and youâd hear a commotion and youâd run back inside and stay in.
âBut thatâs just something that we did all the time, and as kids weâre able to come out, and be together and playing â and doing that saved us a lot because if there was nothing like that what would the kids be doing?â
