Academy Manager makes final preparations for Virgin London Marathon
NORWICH City Academy Manager Ricky Martin is just over two weeks away from the 2013 Virgin London Marathon.
Ricky is running on behalf of the Sporting Light Appeal which raises money to help disadvantaged people and those with disabilities to experience the benefits of sport; keeping them active and happy while improving their health and skills for the future.
Joining Ricky is John Hartley, whose daughter Laura is a member of the Girls’ Centre of Excellence, and the pair are looking for support in the form of sponsorship from Norwich City fans and the local community.
Ricky said: “I am relishing the opportunity to take part in such a high profile event to raise money for the Sporting Light Appeal. It’s a fantastic cause and hopefully people will get behind John and me to raise as much money as we can.”
Last year, a team of eight runners including Canary legend Iwan Roberts and City Chief Executive David McNally, completed the 26.2 mile course for the Appeal, raising just under £30,000.
To date the Appeal has raised £132,297 and has helped over 1,100 people through activities such as sessions in special schools and the first ever Disability Sport Taster Day at the UEA Sportspark.
