READING U-21s 0-0 CITY U-21s

11 February 2013

City take a point from a wintry Hogwood Park

CITY's under-21s secured a point and a 0-0 draw against Reading under-21s as the City Development Squad maintained their unbeaten start to the second phase of fixtures.

With a number of games called off due to the recent weather conditions this was a first outing in a month for City's youngsters, and after an initial 20 minute period found their footing at Reading's Hogwood Park, braving the wintry conditions.

With twins Josh Murphy and Jacob Murphy providing the focus of attack alongside forward Jamar Loza, City's delivery in to the box was good but failed to find the finish in the early stages.

The home side responded through Craig Tanner as he sent the Royals first effort on goal just wide of Remi Matthews' goal from a free-kick.

Into the second half and City pushed on looking to break the deadlock and only a double save from Reading stopper Jon Henly denied City's Jacob Murphy from firing the Canaries ahead.

Further chances came and went for City as they failed to break the deadlock, Remi Matthews doing well in goal to deny Niall Keown.

With the game closing towards a 0-0 draw, Tanner struck the upright late on for the Royals.

Development squad manager Scott Marshall said: "After a month or so without a game it took the lads 20 minutes or so to settle into the match but after that we slowly grew into our stride and created some good chances to perhaps win the game.

"The boys have always prepared themselves well and give a good account of themselves so the break wasn't too much of an issue for us. We're pleased with the point."
