WINGER ON PRE-SEASON

20 July 2013

Anthony Pilkington reflects on Dorados game and San Jose up next

WINGER Anthony Pilkington featured as a second half substitute in City’s pre-season opener against Dorados de Sinaloa on Thursday, also registering the Canaries’ second goal in a 3-0 win over the Mexican side.

“It was a good game for us, they were a decent opposition for us at this time of the season,” said Pilkington. “I think they were a couple of weeks ahead of us, so it was a good test and the boys did really well.

“We put in a good performance, we got what we wanted out of it and obviously we got the win.

“You always want a good test as you’re going in to the Premier League, because as I’ve said before it’s the toughest league in the world. It was a good test for us and one where the boys have put in a good performance.”

The Canaries scored three goals in just six second-half minutes at Sacramento’s Raley Field, Pilkington striking home the second goal in-between Luciano Becchio and Josh Murphy efforts.
He added: “It’s always nice to get an early goal and it sets you up, but it’s not about who scores the goals, it’s about what you get out of the game and I think we got out of last night what we wanted to.”

Having trained at San Jose Earthquakes’ training centre for much of the week, the Canaries now travel to the Buck Shaw Stadium – the home of the MLS side to play their hosts who started their season back in March - therefore providing the Canaries with a tough test on Saturday evening (7.30pm local time, 3.30am BST).

“They’re going to be a lot fitter than us as it’s still very early in our pre-season,” said Pilkington. “It’s going to be another good test and hopefully we can do what we did on Thursday night - put in a good performance and get what we want out of it.”
