City players in loan action at the weekend

CHRIS MARTIN got another 90 minutes under his belt in his loan spell for Derby County… although he couldn’t help prevent a 3-1 defeat to Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

The 24-year-old has featured in every game for the Rams since moving there on a one-month emergency loan deal at the end of February, shortly after a similar spell at Swindon Town had come to an end.

Martin was powerless to stop the Rams extending their winless run in the Championship to eight matches, however, as a Wes Thomas brace and Nathan Redmond’s first goal of the season earned Birmingham the points.

Elsewhere in English football’s second tier, Elliott Ward was part of the Nottingham Forest defence that helped them to a 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the City Ground.

Ward is set to stay with Billy Davies’ men until the end of the campaign, having already played 22 times in the league after making his only Canaries appearance this season in the League Cup win over Doncaster Rovers back in September.

Daniel Ayala is also on-loan at Forest but missed out as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury from which he is expected to return in the next few weeks.

Jacob Butterfield, meanwhile, was an unused substitute for Crystal Palace as they drew 2-2 at home to Leeds United, and James Vaughan was unavailable for selection for Huddersfield Town in their clash against Charlton Athletic as he served the final game of a two-match suspension – they were defeated 1-0.

In League One, Declan Rudd got more valuable minutes between the sticks for Preston North End as they pulled themselves further away from the relegation spots with a 2-0 win against Stevenage.

Tom Adeyemi, who has spent a productive year with Brentford, playing 29 times including a run to the FA Cup Fourth Round, had to settle for a place on the bench as they went down 2-0 at Carlisle United.
