Young Canaries in narrow defeat at Warwick

A YOUTHFUL Norwich City Under-18s side slipped to a 2-1 defeat in their match against Blackburn Rovers at Warwick University on Saturday.

City continued to rest a number of players with the second leg of their FA Youth Cup Final against Chelsea approaching on Monday May 13, with the youngsters leading 1-0 from the first match at Carrow Road.

Jake Simpson’s strike ten minutes from time didn’t quite manage to spark a comeback after Rovers had raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Jordan Preston and Yeray Torres.

The Canaries pressed in the final stages but couldn’t manage to find that elusive equaliser, with the result leaving them rooted to the bottom of Group Two but with two games in hand on the majority of their opponents.

Those matches, home clashes against Newcastle United and Aston Villa, will take place at Colney Training Centre next week.

NORWICH CITY: Reading; Carroll, Hawkins, Grant, Fletcher, Lokko, St Louis, Fountain (Efete 60), Simpson (Fox 88), Heath (Sweeney 81), Byrne-Hewitt. Subs not used: Oxborough, Njie.
