Martin turns focus to Fulham clash next weekend

RUSSELL Martin says he and his Norwich City teammates need to forget yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to West Bromwich Albion quickly in order to be in the best shape possible for the Premier League run-in.

The full-back says a result against Fulham next weekend will help put the disappointment of Saturday’s result to the back of their minds.

“We have to get over it quickly, and with Fulham’s result it puts even more on next week’s game. If we go down there and win, today becomes a little less painful,” he told Norwich City TV after the match.

“This time more than ever we need everyone behind us. I spoke this week about how good the fans are here, and they are. We need them more than ever to get behind the football Club.”

Club captain Martin admitted the Canaries’ performance wasn’t up to scratch.

“We’re disappointed to say the least. The lads are hurting, I’m fed up of saying that but we are,” he said.

“We had a good go in the second half, but the first half wasn’t good enough. We’ve gifted them a goal and from then on we were just chasing the game.

“Credit to them, they had a game plan and they stuck to that, but we need to be better than that to break teams down when they’re sitting off us, especially when they’re defending a goal.

“There’s no lack of effort, no lack of desire. People talk about that, no chance. You can’t question that, the lads are shattered. We’ve just lacked quality, it’s as simple as that.”
