CITY WELCOME PROUD CANARIES

21 February 2014

Newest fan group joins Global Canaries

CITY’S newest supporter group ‘Proud Canaries’ will be welcomed on to the pitch at half-time of the Barclays Premier League clash at Carrow Road on Sunday.

Proud Canaries are the official LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) supporters group and will be joined on the pitch by Amal Fashanu, niece of City legend Justin Fashanu, who would have been 53 on Wednesday.

Amal has agreed to become Patron of the group and our Director Stephen Fry has also agreed to become their honorary president, as the Club continues to underline it’s commitment to combatting homophobia and all other forms of discrimination in the game.

City Chief Executive David McNally and Tottenham Hotspur Executive Director Donna-Maria Cullen will also join the group for a picture with their new Proud Canaries banner as both clubs show their support.

Spurs recently announced the formation of their own LGB&T fan group, which will be officially launched at their Europa League fixture against Dnipro on Thursday.

Anti-homophobic posters supplied by leading gay rights charity Stonewall will be on display around Carrow Road at the Spurs match and at future games and the Club looks forward to working with Proud Canaries.
