City boss speaks ahead of Sunday's trip to Aston Villa

CHRIS Hughton confirmed Leroy Fer has picked up a hamstring injury in training – but says it’s too early to determine how long the midfielder will be missing for.

Fer is a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa but City’s boss isn’t sure of the extent of the problem, which occurred at Colney Training Centre on Thursday.

“He picked up a hamstring injury but we’re still assessing it. It’s of course something that’s only just happened, so we need a bit of time to assess it,” said Hughton at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

“Of course it’s a blow for us at this stage of the season but it’s one that we’ll have to work around as best as we can.

“The good news is that Ryan Bennett is fit and available selection, but unfortunately Michael Turner and Jonas Gutierrez are still out.”

Hughton says his team will be looking to push on from their victory over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

“We’ve been saying it a little while – we’re in good form at the moment, but it’s been about trying to turn that good form into results. We were able to do that against Tottenham,” he commented.

“Confidence is good and our level of performance is good, but it’s about turning that into wins. Sunday is another opportunity and we’ll be doing everything we can to do that.”

On Sunday’s opponents, he added: “I think we’ve probably made of them what everybody else who has seen Villa has made of them.

“They’ve got a lot of good offensive options but they are a team that has found it more difficult at home than away. There isn’t a team that we’ll play in these last 11 games who isn’t a good team.”
