The moves of some former Canaries in the January transfer window

As part of a series of features looking at ex-Canaries, Steve Whitlam tracks the progress of some former Norwich City players & staff who recently made moves in the January transfer window.

On January 17 former City loan signing Ryan Bertrand (2008-09) joined Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea. He made his Villa debut in the televised 2-2 draw at Liverpool.

Although Bertrand played 40 games last season for Chelsea, he made just three appearances since the return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

This is Bertrand’s seventh loan spell. His two stints at Norwich led to 60 appearances in yellow and green. He was joined at Villa Park by Grant Holt (2009-13), who moved on loan from Wigan Athletic.

Striker Simeon Jackson (2010-13) joined Millwall on February 1 after being released by Eintracht Braunschweig - he scored 17 goals in 73 league games during his spell with the Canaries.

Scottish midfielder Stephen Hughes (2009-11) joined Dundee on January 13, signing a contract until the end of the season. He had previously been at East Fife, playing 10 games since signing on October 11. Since leaving Norwich, he has also played for Motherwell and Aberdeen.

On January 1, goalkeeper Lee Camp (2006, 2013) joined Bournemouth on a two-and-a-half year contract from West Bromwich Albion. He had joined Albion in September 2013 but had been loaned to Bournemouth since October 31. He had played 11 games for the Cherries during his loan.

Winger James Henry (2008) made his loan from Millwall to Wolves permanent on January 1. He had joined Wolves on October 1, reuniting with former Millwall manager Kenny Jackett.

Henry made three appearances for Norwich in 2008 whilst on loan from Reading. Reading subsequently loaned him twice to Millwall before he signing permanently in July 2010. He made 164 appearances for Millwall before his move to Wolves.

Matthew Gill (2009-11) signed for Exeter at the beginning of January following the expiry of his contract with Bristol Rovers by mutual consent. Gill had joined Rovers in June 2011 following his departure from Carrow Road.

He was initially loaned to Exeter on October 18, 2013. This is Gill’s second spell at Exeter; he had made 130 appearances between January 2006 and June 2009.
