Former City players and staff now in non-league football

As part of a series of features looking at ex-Canaries, Steve Whitlam tracks the progress of some former Norwich City players & staff who are plying their trade in non-league football.

One surprise of the January transfer window was non-league Kings Lynn’s signing of former Norwich midfielder David Bell (2008-09).

Bell joined the Linnets from League One Notts County whom the 30-year-old he had joined in July 2013 from Coventry.  He made 13 appearances this season for Notts County but realised that injuries were limiting his ability to play professionally. He played 20 times for Norwich after signing from Luton for £750,000.

Former loan signing Elvis Hammond (2003) joined Eastbourne Borough on January 24 from Farnborough.    

Other former Norwich first-teamers in non-league football include Barnet defender David Stephens (2006-10). The former Welsh Under-21 international made one appearance for Norwich but spent two years with Scottish side Hibs before joining Barnet in August 2012.

Winger Anthony McNamee (2009-11) joined Conference side Woking from Aldershot last summer. He made 37 appearances for the Canaries in League One and the Championship. Midfielder Dean Sinclair (2001-04) joined Conference South side Sutton United from Woking in January 2013. Sinclair played twice for Norwich.

Luke Daley (2004-11) joined Conference side Braintree in October 2012. He made 14 appearances for City. Welsh Under-21 international forward Josh Dawkin (2007-12) left Braintree for Cambridge City on August 7 2013. He played three times for Norwich.

Michael Spillane (2004-10) joined Cambridge United on a one year contract on August 23. The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international was released by Southend in May 2013.

Former Cambridge midfielder Rossi Jarvis (2004-08) signed for Ryman League side Lowestoft on October 10, 2013. Jarvis has also played for Luton and Barnet.

Also at Lowestoft is winger Robert Eagle (2003-09) who made 12 appearances for the Canaries. He has also played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Grimsby Town.

Lowestoft’s Director of Football Craig Fleming (1997-2007) made 382 appearances for the Canaries. He joined Lowestoft in August 2008 as first team coach and was then promoted to his current role in May 2011.

Other former Canaries in non-league management include Keith Briggs (2003-04) who joined Stalybridge Celtic as player-manager on October 18. Zema Abbey (2000-04) took charge at St Neots Town in November 2013 after two years as manager of Arlesey Town. Steve Ball (1990-92) was appointed as Leiston’s manager on December 4. 
Adrian Pennock (1986-1991) was appointed manager of Conference side Forest Green Rovers on November 12 2013. He had previously been first team coach at Stoke City. Pennock released Gambian forward Omar Koroma (2008) on January 23. Koroma made six appearances for Norwich whilst on loan from Portsmouth. Koroma had joined Rovers in May 2012.

Nicky Southall (2002) has been manager of Ryman League side Whitstable Town since December 2012 whilst Colin Woodthorpe (1990-95) has been Assistant Manager at AFC Fylde (Northern League) since November 2011.
