JOHNSON RED RESCINDED

30 January 2014

Club wins appeal against midfielder's dismissal

CITY can confirm the Club’s appeal against the red card shown to Bradley Johnson in Tuesday night’s Barclays Premier League game against Newcastle United at Carrow Road has been upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

Referee Chris Foy showed a straight red card to Newcastle United striker Loic Remy in the 82nd minute of the game following an incident involving Johnson. After consultation with his assistant referee, he then also showed a red card to the Norwich midfielder.

City appealed against the decision, which would have meant a three-match suspension for Johnson under FA rules. Today the FA confirmed our appeal has been upheld and the red card has been rescinded, and Johnson will not serve any suspension as a result.

Commenting on the decision, City boss Chris Hughton said: “It’s very good news for us. Our feeling at the time was that it was a very harsh decision so credit to those who had to make the decision to uphold our appeal.”
