City youngster recognised by West Norfolk Sports Awards

CITY youngster Josh Murphy has been honoured with the title of Professional of the Year at the West Norfolk Sports Awards held at the Corn Exchange in King’s Lynn on Wednesday evening.

The 18-year-old, who has broken in to the Canary first team squad this season and whose family home is in the west of the county, was jointly awarded the honour alongside Dominic Dwyer who is currently playing for MLS side Sporting Kansas City having studied at the College of West Anglia as a teenager.

The KL.FM West Norfolk Sports Awards recognise local sports men and women, teams, coaches and officials who have made a contribution to sport in West Norfolk.

Josh, who was clearly delighted to receive the award in front over 600 invited guests from across the West Norfolk sporting spectrum, thanked the great support he has received from his family as well as the coaching staff at Norwich City.

On receiving the award, Murphy said: “It’s amazing, it’s good to win anything and I’m thankful and obviously very happy.

“It’s not often that you have an 18-year-old playing in the Premier League, I think I’m one of six or seven now, so it’s a great achievement and to win this award is very pleasing.”
