All you need to know about Friday's friendly opponents

FULL NAME: Sporting Club de Bastia
NICKNAME: I Turchini (The Blues)
LEAGUE: Ligue 1, France (2013-14: 10th)
MANAGER: Claude Makélélé

A SELECTION of names on the SC Bastia squad list will be familiar to English football fans.

At the top of it is Claude Makélélé, who was appointed as coach of ‘I Turcini’ in May this year. As a holding midfielder, Makélélé played 217 times for Chelsea between 2003 and 2008. He will be opposite Neil Adams in the Bastia dugout on Friday evening.

Defender Sébastien Squillaci spent three seasons at Arsenal between 2010 and 2013 but failed to hold down a regular starting spot for the Gunners, while forward Djibril Cisse has had spells at Liverpool, Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers.

He joined the Corsica club in January on an 18-month contract but has continued to struggle with a groin injury.

Makélélé was preceded as boss by Frederic Hantz, who oversaw two successive promotions in 2011 and 2012 and two subsequent mid-table finishes for Bastia in 2013 and 2014.

Their only major trophy came in 1981 when they won the French Cup, with Roger Milla scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 win over St Etienne.

DID YOU KNOW? Canaries’ full-back Javier Garrido was a teammate of Bastia forward Cisse while the pair were at Lazio together during the 2011-12 season.
