Bassong can't explain poor record on the road

CANARIES skipper Seb Bassong says the players are as baffled as everyone else with regards to why the team’s away form has taken a turn for the worse in 2014.

The central defender was speaking after City’s 3-0 reverse to Swansea City on Saturday  - a result that means City still haven’t picked up a Premier League point away from Carrow Road since New Year’s Day.

“I think it’s not only the fans who are wondering why we’re finding it so difficult away from home. It’s something we’ve been wondering about for a little while now,” said Bassong.

“We’re trying to do something about it but it’s obviously not working. We need to though because we cannot be this inconsistent. We’re great at home but away from there we’ve been bad.

“We’ve got to be able to win games away from home and show more quality.”

The Cameroon international says that performance levels from the team against Swansea City didn’t match the targets before kick-off.

“I know we were away from home but we came into the game with a lot of expectations and we wanted to do something really good, but we were lacking in quality today to win against Swansea,” he added.

“We didn’t get close enough at all in the game. We didn’t keep the ball enough to be able to get the result.”

“Overall, it was probably one of the worst performances of the season.”
