RUSSELL MARTIN: 'CAMARADERIE IS KEY'

Defender looks ahead to challenge of the next season

NORWICH City Football Club has everything in place to compete with the best opposition next season, says Russell Martin.

The Canaries’ skipper believes the foundations are there for the team to be fully prepared for a successful campaign in the SkyBet Championship.

“Come 1st July when pre-season starts – whoever’s in charge, whatever players are here – we’ll make sure we’re ready and geared to put this club back where it belongs,” he said.

“We’ll go away now, into our summers with our families and have time to reflect. We’ve got the core of a fantastic squad – we’re better than what we’ve shown a lot of the time this season.

“Around the place we’ve got some real characters, real good pros and that’s why this time next year I fully believe we’ll be here and it will be a bit more of a party than it is now.”

Martin was addressing the audience at the Club’s End of the Season Dinner on Tuesday night, and added that he believes togetherness will be vital to ensure a positive campaign.

“The camaraderie is key to what we’ve achieved as a football club. It’s a fantastic football club, with fantastic owners and fantastic fans, and that togetherness is what it’s going to come down to.

“We’re not an Arsenal or a Man City, we can’t afford to carry anyone, so the team as a whole must be much greater than its parts.

“We learn from our mistakes, but as players and people you tend to learn a lot from adversity. A lot more than you do when times are good, which we’ve had a lot of here the last few years.

“A lot of the lads here have done it before. It’s up to us now. We take a lot of the responsibility as players, so let’s dust ourselves down and drag this club next season to where we want.”
