Spanish youth international defender joins Norwich.

CITY have bolstered their defence by recruiting Spanish youth international Ignasi Miquel from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at Carrow Road with an option for a further 12 months.

He said: “It’s brilliant for me to come here and I want to try and get in the team as soon as I can to help Norwich get back to the Premier League.

“I had to move on from Arsenal and Norwich have given me the chance to prove myself. The Championship is a tough league, but I know what it’s about and I enjoyed it last season.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

Miquel can play centrally or at left-back and has recent experience of the division having featured for last year’s league winners Leicester City during a short loan spell.

He has played five times in the Premier League for the Gunners, and has made 14 appearances in total since joining on a youth scholarship in 2008.

Neil Adams said: “He’s a defender who we know can play having come through the Arsenal system, and he had important experience with Leicester last year in the Championship,

“He’s certainly one who can come in and give us strength on the left side of our defence.”

Adams had admitted his desire to add to his options at the back after Ryan Bennett suffered ankle ligament damage in the 1-0 win over Ipswich Town last month.

Miquel, capped at Under-21 level by Spain, was ever-present for their Under-19 side when they won the European Championships in 2011.
