Couzens strike in vain for Canaries

NORWICH City Under-18s went down to a 4-1 defeat against Stoke City at Colney Training Centre on Saturday.

The hosts had taken a 22nd minute lead courtesy of a fine George Couzens strike, but were undone by the physicality of an experienced Potters outfit who hit four goals without reply.

Yusuf Coban levelled for the visitors on 38 minutes, before a Julien N'Goy brace either side of the interval put Stoke in control.

They wrapped up victory with quarter of an hour remaining; Thomas Shepherd completing the scoring in the Barclays Under-18s Premier League clash.

Speaking after the game, coach Jerry Gill said: "I'm not overly disappointed because our boys have had a really good run.

"There are just a few who it's been a bit too much for after playing a lot of football at a higher level. We'll be careful with them now so we'll make sure we can get them through the last few games.

"I was pleased for George [Couzens] because he deserved his goal after working hard. I'd like to give a special mention to Marcus Beauchamp too, because he played really well in goal.

"He made some really good saves and his distribution was excellent, so there are plenty of positives."
