Long-serving midfielder speaks to 'The Canary'WES Hoolahan believes experience could play a part in the Sky Bet Championship run-in.
The Canaries dropped to fourth in the table after Friday’s 1-0 home defeat to Middlesbrough, but Alex Neil's men still have a chance of finishing in the top two to complete the most straightforward route back to the Premier League.
Hoolahan was influential, along with John Ruddy and Russell Martin, in City’s promotion-winning team of 2011 and says that the trio are happy to relate know-how to the current squad as the campaign reaches its climax.
“I’m not sure how big a factor that will prove, but hopefully we can help the boys by passing on some of our experience to push them forward,” said the midfielder, who was named in the Football League’s ‘Team of the Decade’ at the Football League Awards on Sunday night.
“Some of us, including myself, have achieved promotion here before. The lads as a whole have been great this season, and we’re looking forward to the run-in over the last few games.
“They’re going to be massive games for us, so we need some massive performances to get to where we want to be.”
The Republic of Ireland international was giving an in-depth interview to the latest issue of ‘The Canary’, the Club’s official magazine which hit the shelves last weekend.
In it, he touched on how much it would mean to him to return to the top flight, adding: “I was fortunate enough to score our first goal back in the Premier League on the opening day of the season against Wigan so that was a real highlight for me.
“It’s what you dream of; getting back to the Premier League.
“That’s where you want to be playing as it’s the best league in the world. To achieve that would cap an amazing year for us.”
