REPORT: ARSENAL 2-0 U18s

15 August 2015

'We deserved more', says Murty

GRAEME Murty admitted to a sense of frustration on behalf of his Under-18s squad after they were beaten 2-0 at Arsenal on Saturday.

The Gunners went in front on the hour-mark through Reiss Nelson, before Eddie Nketiah struck late on to see off the City challenge.

Murty felt the result wasn't a true reflection of the Barclays Under-18s Premier League contest, and told canaries.co.uk: "I was disappointed for the players because they deserved more from the game.

"We dominated the second half and had two goals disallowed before being caught on the break from our own corner. The lads put a great deal into the match and could consider themselves unfortunate."

However, the Academy coach also stressed the need for his side to learn from the defeat, and added: "We have to be aware that if you give top players chances they're likely to to take them at this level.

"It's important we ensure we're tighter than we were and we need to retain the ball better than we're doing at the moment. However, it was a definite improvement on last week which is pleasing for me."

The young Canaries return to action this weekend, hosting West Ham United at Colney Training Centre on Saturday (11am).

Norwich City XI: Oxborough; Ramsay, Lewis, Pollock, Crowe, Boateng, Black (Cantwell, 75), Aransibia, Ashley-Seal, McIntosh, Couzens. Subs not used: Hale-Brown (GK), Wallis, Syme, Middleton.
