Young Canaries secure first win of 2015-16NORWICH City Under-18s manager Graeme Murty felt his side got their just rewards with a 3-1 home victory over West Ham United on Saturday.
After a harsh reverse at Arsenal last weekend, first half goals from Todd Cantwell and Benny Ashley Seal put the hosts in control at the break.
Jamal Lewis wrapped up City's first Barclays Under-18s Premier League win of the season 20 minutes from time, ahead of the Hammers registering a late consolation through Declan Rice.
Reflecting on the result, Murty told canaries.co.uk: "I'm really happy for the players because they worked incredibly hard during the week.
"They took that into the game by pressing with intensity, then showing good quality on the ball. All three goals had elements we'd worked on, which was really pleasing.
"Rewards often don't come quickly as you tend to look for gradual improvement, but the players had a really good turnaround in that regard. It's a positive for them to reflect on."
One downside from the game was an injury suffered by midfielder Henry Pollock during the opening period, and Murty explained: "He flared up something from earlier in the week, but apart from that everyone came through without problems.
"We were also able give Tom Walters and Emerson Sambu some minutes with the Under-16s. Their injury status means they're effectively in their first part of pre-season, so it was good preparation for the intensity of Under-18s football.
"We're working towards having a stronger squad, and no doubt one which is happier than they were last weekend."
