Koeman: We need a win

KOEMAN ON SUNDAY
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman admits his side 'need a win' against the Canaries in Sunday's televised game at St Mary's Stadium (1.30pm).

Speaking after his team exited the Europa League on Thursday, the Dutchman said: "We need to focus totally now on the Premier League and the game on Sunday because the start has been difficult.

"We need a win, as everybody knows, and we have to work for it. We need points and we need wins, because they give confidence to everybody."

Saints finished 7th in the top flight last season but have picked up just two points from their opening three matches this month. They were held to a 0-0 draw by Watford at Vicarage Road last Sunday.

STAR PLAYER
Manchester United declared their interest in Sadio Mane earlier in the transfer window, but Koeman quickly asserted that Southampton wouldn't be selling one of their prized assets.

The 23-year-old frontman joined the south coast club in a £10m deal from Red Bull Salzburg on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window.

He scored ten goals in his debut season, including the fastest hat-trick in Premier League history in the 6-1 victory over Aston Villa in May, making 32 appearances.

A Senegal international, Mane progressed through the youth ranks at FC Metz before moving to Salzburg in 2012. He scored 31 goals in 63 league games for the Austrian outfit.

LAST TIME OUT
Saints were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday following a 1-0 defeat to FC Midtjylland.

Koeman's side needed to score to have any chance of progression to the group stage after their 1-1 first leg draw at St Mary's Stadium a week earlier.

Morten Rasmussen's well-taken goal just before the half hour mark settled the tie in the Danish champions' favour.

Koeman said afterwards: "We have to take it and we have to learn from it and keep going."
