CITY v VILLA: OPPOSITION VIEW

27 December 2015

ASTON VILLA

Nickname: Villans
Manager: Remi Garde
2014-15: 17th
Ground: Villa Park

GARDE ON MONDAY
Remi Garde isn't shying away from the importance of Villa's next two games, starting against Norwich on Monday.

Garde's team are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table having failed to pick up a victory since the opening day of the season, and he said of the double-header against Alex Neil's men and Sunderland: "I think we definitely have to win one of these two.

"It will be difficult because we are fighting against teams not in a good position too. A spark would be very good for us - that would come with a victory.

"For me now, it's about giving more confidence to the players and the group, individually and collectively."

STAR PLAYER
Summer signing Jordan Ayew has come to the rescue in each of the Midlands club's last two matches.

After a stunning strike brought his team level against Newcastle United on December 19, the Ghanaian then netted a vital spot-kick against West Ham United on Boxing Day.

His total for the campaign so far reads at five, and he will be a threat to the Canaries' defence come Monday.

Ayew, 24, played his club football in France for Marseille, Sochaux and Lorient before signing for Villa on a five-year deal in July.

LAST TIME OUT
Villa came from behind to earn a point for the second game in a row as they drew 1-1 with West Ham United on Boxing Day.

Jordan Ayew's second half penalty secured just their eighth point from their 18 Premier League games so far this season.

Aaron Cresswell had put Slaven Bilic's visitors ahead on the cusp of half-time with an arrowed, left-footed drive beyond Brad Guzan.

When Angelo Ogbonna bundled Rudy Gestede over in the box with half an hour left to play, however, Ayew coolly converted from 12 yards.
