Superfan Alan Barnard to bring out the match ballCITY’S latest Community Hero for the game against Wolves at Carrow Road on Saturday (3pm) is veteran superfan Alan Barnard, who has recently bought his EIGHTIETH Canaries season ticket.
Alan, 86, has been supporting City for 80 years and was at the first-ever game at Carrow Road, a 4-3 win over West Ham United on August 31, 1935. He had therefore already been coming to Carrow Road for 23 years by the time the famous 1958-59 cup run got underway!
“I will always remember about that day all the officials, the top brass, they all wore silk top hats. Mr Watling’s father was there too. I was just a boy of seven and I’d never seen such top silk hats – I will always remember it,” said Mr Barnard reflecting on the first game at Carrow Road.
Over the years Alan was involved in the formation of the Vice Presidents and then the Ambassadors Club, helping to raise money for the Club to build the River End – now the Norwich & Peterborough Stand – and also raising more than £8,000 for Friends of Norwich City Youth (FONCY) at charity golf days.
Alan is a Director of Bawburgh Golf Club, Diamond sponsors of the Norwich City Under-18 side who won the FA Youth Cup in 2013 and currently proud sponsors of the Under-21s.
He recently purchased his 2015-16 season ticket before Saturday’s first deadline, his 80th Norwich City season ticket in total. He will bring the matchball out before the game against Wolves watched by members of his family, all of whom are also Canary supporters.
